Psalm 51

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions” (v1).  The psalmist gave us a firm foundation for our relationship with God.  We know that God is full of love and mercy, so we can approach Him (v1).  We recognize that we are sinners (v3,4).  When we ask for forgiveness, God makes us “whiter than snow” (v7).  Finally, God gives us a “clean heart and a right spirit” (v10) as we go forward.

From eternity, God never changes.  On the basis of Jesus’ sacrifice, God is always ready to forgive us, cleanse us, and give us the transformed heart we need to live for Him.
