Psalm 52
/“But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever” (v8). The psalmist could endure conflict and the accusations of wicked people because he was deeply rooted in God’s fellowship - “forever and ever.” Sinful choices, ours or other people’s, cause us temporary suffering, but “the steadfast love of God endures all the day” (v2). And in the end, the forces of sin and death will be no more: “God will break you down forever” (v5).
“I will thank you forever” (v9). Eternal life means that we belong to God now and forever; present trouble cannot uproot us from Him.
