Acts 25

"Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I committed any offense” (v8).  Paul was innocent of all criminal charges; he had only preached that Jesus was alive (v19).  Aware of his rights as a Roman citizen (v11, 16), Paul defended himself and called for justice.  However, instead of releasing him due to lack of evidence, government officials let his case drag on – all the way to Rome.

Jesus warned his followers to expect opposition (John 15:18-21).  Though Paul knew his “rights,” he was willing to give them up, to go to prison and even die, “for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Phil 3:8).
