Thessalonians 5

“For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober” (v5-6).  As followers of Jesus, we are called to be “spiritually awake,” using our time wisely and being ready for Christ’s return (v4,8).  We are connected to one another and influence one another: “be at peace among yourselves …admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak” (v13-15).

Drifting through life half-asleep wastes our opportunities.  God is faithful to give us what we need to live purposefully, for Him (v24): “Test everything; hold fast what is good” (v29).
