Psalm 138
/“On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased” (v3). The psalmist was quick to confess that his inner being, his spirit or soul, desperately needed God’s strength. He praised God with his “whole heart” because God answered his call for help in visible, concrete ways and in the unseen depths of his private self, where fear and temptation plagued him. The psalmist testified: “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life” (v7).
“The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me” (v8). God’s purposes for us are good, and in the midst of our trouble we can depend on His strength, love, and grace.
