I Peter 1

“Love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable…” (1:23).  Peter urged believers to pursue holiness and love because they had been born again, and this new birth had been bought by “the precious blood of Christ” (1:17).  We have been born into God’s family, yet we look forward to the completion of God’s work: “a living hope …an inheritance …a salvation ready to be revealed” (v3-5).

The imperishable seed of new life in Christ, planted in our hearts, is meant to keep growing.  In the end, our “tested faith” will “result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:7).
