James 3-5

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere” (3:17).  James helps us understand that a life of inward devotion to Jesus will produce outward results.  “Jealousy and selfish ambition,” (3:16), cursing (3:9), greed, and lack of compassion (5:4) are the opposite of a Jesus-centered life.  James encourages us to ask for help, because God “gives grace to the humble" (4:6)

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (4:7).  When we willingly cooperate with God’s work in our lives, He gives us power to resist sin and embrace holiness.
