Amos 6-9

“Woe to those who are at ease in Zion …” (6:1).  The prophet Amos warned those who felt secure and lived comfortably (v1-6) that they would be the first to go into exile when the Lord allowed Israel to be conquered.  Some had let their prosperity blind them to Israel’s slide into idolatry, and others were completely obsessed with profit-making (8:5-6), to the exclusion of all other concerns. Amos said that God’s judgment was coming so that people would be “thirsty” for His Word (8:10-11).

God warns us so that we have a chance to repent and be restored. “They shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them …they shall make gardens and eat their fruit” (9:14).
