II Peter 1

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control …” (v5-6).  Peter believed that he would soon go to meet Jesus (v13-14), and his last advice for believers concerned the development of their Christian character.  Peter taught that God’s “divine power” has given us everything we need for “life and godliness” (v3), and therefore we can grow more like Christ.  As we develop endurance, godliness, and love, we become more effective and fruitful in God’s kingdom (v8).

“We were eyewitnesses of his majesty” (v16).  The Christian life isn’t an idea, but an active life of following the risen Christ and abiding in His Spirit.
