Hebrews 6-8

“This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant … he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever” (v22-24).  Hebrews teaches us that the Old Testament system, the old covenant of temple, priests, and sacrifices, was “a copy and shadow of heavenly things” (8:5).  The real Priest is Jesus, who sacrificed himself in order to bring us into his holy kingdom.  Jesus’ ministry on our behalf continues, “since he always lives to make intercession” for us (7:25).  Confidence in his unceasing love gives us “a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul” (6:19).

“Through faith and patience,” as we stay close to our Priest-King Jesus, we receive the “things that belong to salvation” (6:9-12).
