Zechariah 4-6

“It is he who shall build the temple of the LORD … and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne …" (6:13).  In a vision, Zechariah saw Joshua the high priest sitting on a throne, uniting the roles of spiritual and national leadership.  These roles had been undermined during the years in Babylon, and now, Israel’s political leader was subservient to the Persian empire.  Yet Zechariah prophesied a different kind of Leader.

“Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” (4:6).  God didn’t bring His kingdom to earth through human power, but through Jesus our Lord, who conquered by humbly dying on a cross (Phil 2).
