I Corinthians 1
/“I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment” (v10). In Corinth, believers were putting gifted leaders on a pedestal (v12) and forming groups around them. Paul rebuked them, reminding them that their salvation did not depend on smooth “words of wisdom” but on “Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles” (v23) so no one can “boast” (v29).
Celebrity leaders divide and distract us from our Savior. God calls us into unity based on “the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ” (v9).
