Job 39-40

“Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?” (40:9).  Before Job could receive anything from God, he had to confront his own limitations.  Humans were not present at the creation of the universe, and we can’t keep it going.  We have great gifts and intellect, but we can’t tame the entire natural world (40:24), and we can’t punish the wicked with ultimate justice (v12-13).  God pointed out the Behemoth to Job, (probably a hippo) “which I made as I made you” (v15).

We are not gods; we don’t control life or death or the universe.  Yet we are significant, because the Creator loves us and invites us to know Him.
