Isaiah 13-15

“The LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people find refuge” (14:32).  Just like today, in Isaiah’s time people suffered under oppressive regimes.  Arrogant dictators “shook kingdoms … made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities … did not let his prisoners go home” (14:16-17).  God promised to overthrow the “pompous pride of the ruthless” (13:11) and to raise up His people, Israel, as a righteous safe haven for the world.

“And the firstborn of the poor will graze, and the needy lie down in safety” (14:30).  In a troubled world, God’s people are called to offer refuge in His name.
