Psalm 114

“What ails you, O sea, that you flee?” (v5). The psalmist said the earth itself took notice when God delivered His people from Egypt (v1).  God’s great act of liberation took the Israelite slaves from Egypt and gave them their own land, a “sanctuary” and “dominion” (v2) where they could live in peace.  The psalmist imagined the mountains, rivers, and seas being shaken because of God’s mighty saving presence (v4).  “Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord” (v7).

Nothing in heaven or earth can obstruct God’s saving work on our behalf.  He “turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water” (v8).
