Psalm 116-117

“The LORD preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me” (v6).  In his anguish (v3), the psalmist glimpsed the heart of God’s saving grace: when we are “brought low” by disaster, disappointment, or personal sinful choices, God saves us.  When we throw ourselves on His mercy, God delivers “my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling” (v8).  The greatest obstacle to receiving God’s help is our pride, our refusal to ask.

“Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you” (116:7, 117:2).  God’s love and mercy are bountiful; He saved us and keeps saving us.
