Jeremiah 16-18

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD …He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green" (17:7-8).  God saved Israel from Egypt, and He gave them the Promised Land.  If they trusted Him, they would obey Him, and this obedience would result in a peaceful, abundant life.  But “the heart is deceitful” (17:9), and like all humans, they turned their backs on God, forfeiting their inheritance (16:5).

“Save me, and I shall be saved” (17:14).  The story doesn’t end with human failure; God sent His Son to reconcile us to Himself and call us again to trust Him.
