Psalm 131

“I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me” (v1).  Everyone has responsibilities, and we don’t glorify God by dropping them or ignoring them.  However, the psalmist realized that, in relation to God, he was a humble child who could ask for his Father to carry his burdens.  He didn’t raise his eyes “too high;” he did not over-estimate his own importance, but instead rested in God’s care.

“I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother” (v2).  When we see ourselves clearly as God’s children, willing to lean on His authority and power, our souls find peace.
