Jeremiah 51-52

“Every man is stupid and without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols … they are worthless, a work of delusion” (51:17-18).  The Babylonians, like all empires, worshipped power (51:34), but it was a false idol that could not save them.  Eventually they crumbled, despite their armies and their wealth.  In the end, they could not stand against “He who made the earth by His power” (51:15).

“He is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance” (51:19).  God holds infinite power, yet instead of crushing us, He uses it to save us and to “unite all things in Him” (Eph 1:10 ).
