Matthew 11-12
/“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (11:28). The religious leaders of Jesus’ day knew the Old Testament, but their efforts to obey the Law became a heavy burden (12:2, 12:10). Jesus brought real, demonstrable life in himself (11:4), and the humble understood and received him, like little children (11:25). Compared to trying to save themselves or please an idol, Jesus’ way was “easy” and “light” (v29).
“You will find rest for your souls” (11:28). There is only one way to find the deep, lasting peace our souls crave: to admit our failures and fully embrace what our Savior has done for us.
