Genesis 22-23

"God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son" (22:8).  Abraham’s faith was tested to the breaking point when God asked him to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac.  From what Abraham knew of God’s goodness (this was before God gave the Law), Abraham trusted and hoped that Isaac, who his son, his legacy, and his future, would be spared. Abraham’s faith demonstrated that he did not love or worship the gift above the Giver (22:16).
If we worship any of God’s of gifts (family, possessions, knowledge, work), they become idols that enslave us.  When we worship God, his good gifts are sources of joy, comfort, provision, and satisfaction (22:14).
