Proverbs 1

“But these men lie in wait for their own blood; they set an ambush for their own lives” (v18).  The proverbs teach us that when we pursue money or any other idol, we are ambushing our own well-being.  God warns us against sexual immorality, greed, violence, and other sins because they lead to our own destruction.  Yet God’s desire is to bless us, and if we turn to Him, He says, “I will pour out my Spirit to you” (v23).

When we put our trust in Jesus and submit to His authority, we “will dwell secure … without dread of disaster” (v33), because we are following the One who made us and loves us.
