Genesis 10-11

“Now the whole earth had one language and the same words” (11:1).  The story of the tower of Babel describes the incredible potential of humanity – both for progress and for disaster.  The early human civilization had built some kind of temple-complex, a “tower,” not for God’s glory, but “to make a name for ourselves” (v4), and God was displeased.  He confused their language and scattered them in order to prevent their ungodly power from increasing.

“And they were all together in one place” (Acts 2:1). God’s plan is for men and women to unite through our Lord Jesus, using our God-given potential to lift up His name and His kingdom, rather than our own.
