Psalm 39

“I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue” (v1).  The psalmist was frustrated with “the wicked,” yet he decided to “muzzle” himself rather than speak impulsively.  When his heart continued in turmoil and “the fire burned hot” within him, he decided to speak out; however, he addressed his words to God.  “O Lord, make me know my days … how fleeting I am!” (v4).  He asked God to give him spiritual perspective and to see himself clearly (v8).

“For what do I wait? My hope is in you” (v7).  When we handle our frustrations on our own, we can do damage, but God gives us patience, perspective, and wisdom when we ask.
