Mark 13-14

“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" (14:38).  When Jesus most needed his disciples’ support, they fell asleep in the garden.  Jesus knew that they would fail to stand by him in that moment (14:30), but he also looked ahead to the powerful witnesses they would later be.  They would endure being “beaten in the synagogues,” and the gospel would be preached to “all nations” by men and women full of the Spirit (13:9-10).

“Stay awake” (13:37).  Jesus is quick to forgive our failures, and he also gives us the Spirit’s power, enabling us to grow in virtue, endure opposition, and witness boldly till he returns.        #NCManna
