Genesis 47
/“And they said, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh” (v25). Without Joseph’s management and foresight (and interpretation of Pharaoh’s dreams), the people of Egypt would have starved, as well as those in neighboring Canaan. However, the ruler’s “salvation” came at a cost: the people gave their money, livestock, and land to Pharaoh. After the crisis, they belonged to him and owed him everything. But Abraham’s descendants were different.
“Do not bury me in Egypt …” (v29). Jacob wanted to be buried back in the Promised Land as a testimony to his true identity. Our real King, the source of our provision, protection, and salvation, is the Lord.
