Luke 2:1-20
/“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people” (v10). The shepherds naturally reacted with fear to the appearance of the angels (v9). The glory and power of heaven breaking into their world caused alarm, until the angels spoke. They brought “good news of great joy” from God, not judgment, and “on earth, peace” (v14). The shepherds couldn’t imagine this, until they saw the baby for themselves (v20).
Jesus’ entry into our world and his sacrifice for us revealed God’s great love. The good news is that instead of condemning us, God sent Jesus so “that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:17).
