Luke 2:21-52
/“Simeon … was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him” (v25). Luke tells us that Jesus’ appearance was welcomed by a wide range of people. Simeon wasn’t a priest or scribe, but he was “devout” and full of the Spirit, and he saw God’s salvation in the child Jesus (v27). Anna, the elderly prophetess, also recognized “the redemption of Jerusalem” (v38) in the baby whose parents could only afford to sacrifice pigeons (v24).
“For my eyes have seen your salvation” (v30). Like Simeon and Anna, we receive God’s mercy and His presence when our hearts are ready to welcome Him.
