John 3:1-10

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (v6).  The religious leader, Nicodemus, was attracted to Jesus and his message. Jesus told him that to enter God’s kingdom, being Jewish, religious, and moral wasn’t sufficient; he must be “born again” by God’s own Spirit.  The flesh – what we as humans can control – can never be good enough, but we can be adopted, re-born, as God’s beloved children through Jesus Himself.  The Spirit “blows where it wishes” (v8).

“You must be born again” (v7).  Our family of origin and culture can’t save us; we must to die to ourselves and let God’s Spirit through Jesus give us new life.
