Numbers 36
/“For every one of the people of Israel shall hold on to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers” (v7). The land given to each Israelite tribe was the fulfillment of God’s promise, a gift. This precious inheritance was normally passed down through males, but since Zelophehad of Manasseh had no sons, his daughters inherited. In order for the tribe not to lose their lands, Moses decreed that these land-holding women should marry men within their own tribe.
The inheritance we receive by faith in Jesus is more secure than land; no one can take it away. We are God’s redeemed people now and forever, a gift that is “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading” (Heb 915; I Peter 1:4).
