I Corinthians 7:17:40

“So, brothers, in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God” (v24). In a society where few people had real choice in their status, work, or even marriage selection, Paul’s advice provided confidence that all could live a holy, God-honoring life. There was no need to desperately try to change one’s circumstances to match an idea of “a good life” (though Paul encouraged slaves to try to gain freedom, v21). Neither being Jewish or Gentile, married or single, servant or master gave anyone a bonus with God.

“You were bought with a price” (v23). Whatever our circumstance, we belong to God through Christ, and His Spirit in us makes our lives sacred.
