Psalm 102

“Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call!” (v2). The psalmist describes a time of deep pain and loneliness: “I forget to eat my bread … I lie awake; I am like a lonely sparrow” (v3-7). He calls to the Lord for help, knowing that “He regards the prayer of the destitute” (v17). He is the God who answers, who comes, who redeems Zion and sets prisoners free (v16-21). From generation to generation, He is trustworthy (v24-27).

No matter what trouble or pain we are experiencing now, we, along with future generations, “dwell secure” because of God’s unshakeable love (v28).
