Esther 4

“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place …” (v14). Mordecai wanted Esther to be part of God’s rescue of the Jews. However, he believed that if Esther refused to risk her life by approaching the king, God would raise up another kind of deliverance. Esther had to choose for herself, in a terrible time, whose side she was on, whatever the consequences. She chose to join Mordecai: “If I perish, I perish” (v16).

“But as for me …” (v11). Though not as dramatic as Esther, we each face real choices. We are called to be part of God’s deliverance in the world, even when it costs us.
