Acts 8:1-25
/“And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip when they heard him and saw the signs that he did” (v6). The Samaritans were searching for practical help with their lives, and they “paid attention” to Philip’s message because they were being healed (v7). They had “paid attention” to Simon the magician (v10-11), since he also demonstrated power. Yet, as Simon himself discovered, Jesus’ power was unique: it wasn’t for sale, and it wasn’t under human control (v20).
“The name of Jesus Christ” (v12) brings healing, yet it isn’t a magic tool for self-empowerment or an extra resource. Jesus calls us to repent and follow Him with our whole hearts.
