1 Samuel 25
/“Blessed be your discretion, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodguilt and from avenging myself with my own hand!” (v33). David and his men had been insulted by Nabal’s rejection of their request for hospitality (v10). Nabal himself had “railed” at them, allowing his temper to control him, and David faced the same choice. He could have done something in anger that he would regret for a lifetime (v31), but instead, he welcomed Abigail as God’s messenger of wisdom and self-control.
"Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me” (v32). God sends us wise councilors and ways of resisting temptation; like David, we can choose to listen.
