I Kings 2
/"I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes …” (v2-3). As David handed off the kingdom to his son Solomon, he urged him to follow God with all his heart. While Solomon took control in the normal way of ancient kings (avenging his father’s enemies, v5-6, repelling threats, v22), the truth was that real, lasting prosperity for Israel would only come through obedience to God’s Law (v3).
If we want our lives to have lasting significance, God calls us to “walk before Me in faithfulness with all [our] heart and soul” (v4).
