“Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” (v9). Solomon had the right pedigree for the throne, David’s approval, and every resource at his disposal.  He didn’t have to spend years winning battles and hiding in caves like his father David did.  Solomon could have depended on his own capabilities, but instead he humbly asked God for help, and God poured out wisdom on him (v28).

“I give you a wise and discerning mind …” (v12).  When we humbly ask for help, wanting to glorify God, He gives us strength and wisdom for our work.
