II Kings 12

“Why are you not repairing the house?” (v7).  When King Joash took the throne, God’s temple had been neglected for a long time, and he declared that it should be repaired.  For the next 23 years, offerings were given, yet nothing got done (v6).  King Joash himself had to get involved and make sure the whole process worked properly, from giving the money to collecting it, counting it, and putting it in the hands of trustworthy workmen.  Good intentions were not enough; Joash had to follow through.

“And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all his days …” (v2).  “Doing right” is more than an idea, feeling, or intention; it is right action, followed through to the end.
