Psalm 77

“Let me remember my song in the night” (v6). As the psalmist lay awake at night, so troubled he couldn’t speak to anyone (v1-5), he began to wonder if God’s love had run out.  Had God’s good promises failed? He made a mental “diligent search” (v6) of the past and remembered God’s “mighty deeds” on behalf of Israel, especially the dramatic rescue out of Egypt (v15-20).  God had always led His people with power and love, though his “footprints were unseen” (v19).

Our “song in the night” – remembering God’s past kindness to us – is our defense when troubles fill our minds.  We can count on Him to “work wonders” again (v14).
