I Chronicles 2

“These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun …” (v1).  Chronicles traces the important lines of descent from Jacob/Israel, demonstrating how God kept His promise to bring Abraham’s children into the Promised Land (the genealogies also supported families’ claims of ownership).  The family tree included examples of human sinfulness: Jacob’s manipulations, Judah’s sin with Tamar, Achan, “the troubler of Israel” (v7) etc.  Boaz, Caleb, and others displayed obedient trust in the Lord.  However, it was only God Himself who remained faithful throughout the generations.

“In your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed” (Gen 22:18).  Israel blessed the world not through their own righteousness, but through God’s unfailing mercy, faithfulness, and love.
