Proverbs 29
/“A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back” (v11). The proverbs address the areas of life that are mostly in our control – our words, reactions, and personal choices. Following God’s way (wisdom) means learning to master our anger rather than “blowing up” at those around us. “A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression” (v22). As we learn to control ourselves, we can also discipline our children wisely so that they enjoy a peaceful future (v15, 17).
“He who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor” (v23). The world celebrates arrogance and outrage, but God honors self-control and humility.
