Daniel 5-9
/“O my God, incline your ear and hear … For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy” (9:18). Since arriving in Babylon, Daniel had stayed faithful to the Lord, first as a young Jewish leader-in-training for Nebuchadnezzar, and then as a revered wise man. Finally, Daniel found the prophecy saying God would return His people to Israel (9:2). Considering this, Daniel prayed – not for what they deserved, but for mercy.
“O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act …for your own sake, O my God” (9:19). God pours out His forgiveness, restoration, and good gifts not because of our good deeds, but because of His great love.
