2 John, 3 John

“Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward” (2John:8).  John knew that believers faced many temptations and obstacles to their faith: idols (1 John), false doctrine, ongoing conflict and hatred, etc.  John rejoiced that many in the young church were “walking in truth” and resisting these dangers (3John:3-4), and under the leadership of Gaius were even supporting traveling missionaries (3John:5-8).  Sadly, others like Diotrephes (3John:9) actively discouraged this financial support.

“And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments” (2John:6). Love means speaking and doing and giving in ways that honor Jesus as Lord.
