I John 4-5

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world” (4:1). John warned believers not to fall for the lies of false teachers.  Some believed Jesus to be “spiritual” and resisted his humanity, and others preached correctly but held on to hatred.  John said that all authentic believers confessed that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, came “in the flesh” to rescue us (4:15,4:2), and they must love others (4:7-12).

We have a perfect model to follow.  “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him” (4:9).
