Nahum 1-3
/“Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger?” (1:6). Nahum delivered God’s word of judgment to Nineveh, capital of Assyria, the mightiest empire in the world. No one could stand before the Assyrians; their wealth and armies were unstoppable. However, Nahum assured God’s people that their greatest enemy would crumble before the Lord, whose “wrath is poured out like fire” (v6). But for those who repented and took refuge in God, He would be “a stronghold in the day of trouble” (1:7).
Nahum’s prophecy included the “good news” (1:15) that anyone who makes the Lord their home will find peace. We don’t have to fear “the day of trouble,” now or beyond death, because He is our salvation.
