II Peter 1

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness” (v3). Peter assured believers that through belonging to Jesus, we participate in God’s own nature (v4), and His power gives us all we need to live well on this earth. Knowing this, we can “make every effort” to become the people we’re created to be, letting our faith mature into virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love (v7). Without these qualities, we are “blind” to God’s purpose in saving us (v9).

God’s power is sufficient to save us and to help us mature, to “keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1:8).
