I Peter 3-5
/“But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed … always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (3:14-15). Peter assumed that believers who tried to follow Jesus’ path would encounter opposition (4:12); he urged them to persevere and to explain their faith with “gentleness and respect.” Even unbelieving spouses can be won over by a “gentle and quiet spirit” (3:3-4).
“Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind” (3:8). The gospel is most persuasive when our lives match our words.
