Psalm 122
/“I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD!” (v1). This “song of ascent” would have been sung on the way to celebrate a festival in Jerusalem; God’s people rejoiced for the opportunity to worship Him in the holy city. Jerusalem’s peace and security meant that Temple worship, central to Israelite life, was undisturbed (v6), and men and women could enjoy God’s presence.
“Jerusalem – built as a city that is bound firmly together …” (v3). Paul tells us that in Christ we “are being built together” (Eph 2:22) as the new holy temple; united by faith, wherever we gather, God dwells among us.
