II Corinthians 9:1-7

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (v7). The principle of voluntary and cheerful giving was established in the first chapters of Acts, when the early believers shared their possessions. Ananias and Saphira provoked God’s wrath because they pretended to give generously, yet deception was in their hearts. Paul praised the Corinthians for their readiness and zeal to participate in the offering for the struggling believers in Jerusalem (v2).

“Whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully” (v6). Giving is a privilege, not an obligation. Our faith in God and His abundant kindness in our lives overflows and inspires our generosity toward others.
