Matthew 4:1-11
/“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil” (v1). At Jesus’ baptism, the Holy Spirit descended on him (ch 3) and then soon led him into the desert for a period of fasting and extreme testing. For our sakes, Jesus experienced human weakness, defeated the devil, and showed us how to confront temptation. “As it is written, man shall not live by bread alone …” (v4). Full of the Spirit, Jesus saw through the enemy’s lies and stood firmly on God’s truth.
“Be gone, Satan!” (v10). Jesus was victorious so that we can be, too. We face temptation armed with the Spirit, the Word, and His abundant grace.
